In this final ‘I am’ saying, Jesus declares himself the "true Israel". He is truly and perfectly what Israel was meant to be, the vine planted by God to spread and touch people everywhere, drawing them to the beautiful character of God. We will be fruitful in reproducing the lovely character of Jesus by staying connected to Jesus the true vine, his words remaining in us.
